More Team Green History
« on: November 07, 2013, 01:39:08 PM »
Team Green pulled out of Baja racing after the 1996 Baja 1000.......The following year Honda started their win streak in Baja since they had nobody to race against.  Paul Krause was the rider of record for Kawasaki in 1996 and had the #1 plate......So without Team Green support Paul was gonna race the 1997 Baja 1000 on an all white KX500 built by White Brothers.  This bike would carry the #1D instead of #1X in memory of Danny Hamel......Unfortunatly Paul got food poisoning the day before the race and could not compete thus handing the victory over to Honda.....

Enjoy this picture because it was a real B1TCH to find after almost 17 years
I once heard my buddy Bill ask Danny Hamel after a race....
"How can someone who looks like a high school band tuba player go so d**n fast on a bike?!"

This is the only one I know of that exists......Like I said, it took me years to find this one.  I spoke with Paul's son last night and even they don't have any photos of this bike.

OK.....here is the story from Paul's mouth......

"Yes this is true. I preran a couple of weeks prior to the race and spent the weekend before the race organizing all of my chase vehicles and race support stuff. I think I had borrowed and set up 5 identical KX 500s so that each chase truck would have one (All the spare parts I would ever need). I was set to leave Sunday and prerun a few more days before the race. Unfortunately I got really sick - 103 plus degree fever and all of the other great side effects and could not get out of bed until Wednesday. What really sucked, besides pulling out of the race, was that it rained before the race and the entire course was ego dirt."

the white plastics are from ufo,  acerbis or mayer-plastics...  i know that ufo always offered green black and white plastics for all kx- bikes . and in 1990 -1994 also blue and pink..
