1991 KX 250 high idle at startup
« on: November 01, 2013, 10:32:53 AM »
Got the bike all back together and running good. When I start it up when it's cold and the choke is on it revs very high. When I turn the choke of it gradually comes down to idle? After bike is warmed up no problem with high idle. Carb was rebuilt, cleaned, float hight set & jetted. Any thing else  I should check ? John.

The choke plunger itself could have an air leak. Since it only idles high when the choke is pulled, and returns to normal when the choke is disengaged, this seems to suggest an air leak in the choke circuit.

I have to give the Motocross Action Magazine website credit for that little tidbit. My bike had the same problem, so I replaced the choke plunger after reading the MXA website. Problem solved.
