KX500 AF in the UK
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:52:16 AM »
Hello all,

Im contemplating building a k5 with a 2012/13 alloy frame and was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance on where to start?

I am based in the UK and would like a 2001+ motor does this make any difference though?

Also what frame is best as i would like a newer model if possible, can anyone make any recommendations of where i can get one as they are all from the states on ebay?!

many thanks

you can buy a frame for pretty cheap. but even getting good ebay deals piecing one together you'll still be cheaper off to buy a blown up 250F or 450F and do an engine swap.
this way is a LOT less work and parts sourcing.

i know the triple trees and a few parts are different on either '12+ or '13+. so saying that you may have more parts availability going with a pre '12. thats going to need some researching to see what year they made big parts changes. if that even matters to you at all.

on engines, dont quote me but i think '98+ are all the same, possibly later than that. so no need to hone in on a particular year with a model that late.

a 450F frame will have a bit more room, but 450F's dont grenade *AS MUCH* as 250F so will be slightly more expensive or harder to find.

so just curious any major differences between the 250f and 450f frames? size, geometry
(ask cause side by side, KX125, and 500 stand the same)even swapped handle bars
 or just the engine mounted?

The big advantage using a 450 chassis is the amount of engine room and clearance.
The 250F will work but it's real tight...
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
