Frustration big time!
« on: December 08, 2004, 08:52:19 AM »
I have been trying to modify my old KX-5 so that I can fit a new pair of front-forks (the ones from my 125). Trying to make this work, I have changed the triple clamps and made a new brake caliper mounting bracket etc etc. I was planning to mount it all tonight. That's when I relaised I need to manufacture yet another bolt. This has become a rather expensive modification. I might as well have bought another bike...

The reason behind all this is so that I can swap wheels from motard to MX in a whim. It does not work to good right now.

Sorry, just ventilating my frustration.

John,

I used to ride with KX250 forks (before Acme started tuning my suspension), and the steering head bolt is probably the wrong size (depending upon the bike years).  On my 1999, the 500 bolt was smaller than the 250 bolt.  The solution?  I used 10mm shim stock to make a round spacer that I tapped in the gap between the tripple clamp hole and the bolt.  Total cost was less than $1.00.

If this is your problem, this should solve it.

Changing the bike is out of question - not with the amount of time & effort I have spent now... I just bought two additional carb's. I am going to look into the kick-back issue. I am sure it's related to the carbs in one way or another. I will post any progress (if there is any).

I have not given up, I am just frustrated.

No, I am staing here in the UK over Christmas. This will be the first one without relatives around. I am going to enjoy it big time! I just have to figure out a way to get rid of the wife and kids now.
