Kx500 stator
« on: August 24, 2013, 10:06:54 AM »
Where can I find a stator for a 99 kx 500?
Not looking for a $500 one that supports a lighting system, just the coil stator to make it run. Will other years work? Only finding a 91

Would 250's possibly work? If so,.you can go that route.

If your patient enough you will most definitely see one pop up on Ebay any where from $50 to $150 used.

I have been browsing eBay a few weeks now and still working that angle, does anyone know the difference in the older ones? Or the 250s? Will they work? Picked up the bike and did some work to it, this is the last piece if the puzzle I think to have it complete.

Any other info would be great. Thanks

http://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1999-e11-kx500-north-america_model11990/partslist/E1810.html#results

thats oem-new...  on ebay is a aftermarket-stator offered for 75,- dollar, but that fits only to kx 500 ´85-91 ( also fits to several kx 125 /250 83-87 )

a few weeks ago i saw also a guy that offers only the coils for the stator for replacing...  i think its worth a try to find and contact him.. :-)

85 and 91 are different, in about 89 there was a change, as I recall some had the older smaller flywheel and some had the larger which is what they used till the end

That link I had seen previously, it's located in the Netherlands I believe. Kind of looking for something in the states if possible with a working phone number and legit business credentials. Been burned with overseas outfits before.

Wondering
What the difference is from the 91 to the 99?

I found replacement coils but thought the same issue, not matching the year. The screws on the one I bought had not had lock tight applied and vibrated out, thus ruining the flywheel and everything else under the cover including the seal.

Will keep searching

Hey mate. I have a 1994 stator with lighting coil that I would be willing part with. It came off my bike along with the flywheel. I upgraded. Send me a PM

@don46:
the change came in 92! with a more weight crank and the bigger stator and bigger flywheel to get more torque, because of using the big smoker less on mx and more in desert-races. the cdi´s have also diferent numbers and wires , so i can´t say that the stators are interchangeable between 91 and older or 92 and newer ignitions. its possible that some older bikes where updated with the 92-2004 ignition.

@sharky74:
the ebay-links i´ve seen were all located in us.
i say: buy the 94 stator of twosmokerfan and your problem is solved...  :-)

you can use any year you can find as long as you get the flywheel, stator and CDI, there are different part numbers along the way but from 86-89 you can use the flywheel and stator and CDi, interchangeably, the CDI has 5 wires I believe.  there wasan optional heavier flywheel/ignition offer in 1989,

First Class mail should run about $16.75 USD.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Actually the older has 6 wires and the newer has 5, you have all except the black to the coil, the newer has 5 wires same except no white green. and I'm pretty sure the change happened in 1990, check your shop manual on the electrical diagram.
