2000 KX500 VS. 2009 KX450F Sand drag....
« on: July 04, 2013, 04:48:39 PM »
7-4-13 Florence, Oregon.
2000 KX500 VS. 2009 KX450F Sand drag....
The 2009 KX450F was fully rebuilt last year and is in excellent running condition.
The rider weighs 140lb.
The 2000 KX500 had a new piston and ring set installed 3 years ago.
It has no other engine mods and the rider weighs 225 lb.

Very Close but was it a fluke?
Lets try it again....

Nope.... The old dog still has some beans but it's starting to feel a bit sluggish so it's time for a upgrade  :D

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

85 lb weight difference is alot. That's like giving up 10-12 hp.

for a real vs-match you need 2 similar riders, same weight and riding experience. using the same tires is also a good idea  .
after first run change the bikes between the riders and do the second run. so are only the bikes the real diference between both riders and you´ll see at least, which is the better bike in the tested riding conditions...  :-D

Yeah, we talked about switching bikes later that day but things came up and we needed to leave a little earlier then planned.
I'm in no way unhappy with my bikes performance.
It's old and getting tired and still held it's own against a much lighter rider.
The cheapest gain in performance I could make is to loose 30 lbs  8-)

:-D... i should also work on less bodyweight, but the k5 needs a little bit extra pressure on the rear wheel to get the hp´s right to the ground...  8-)

that's where one of these babies help out(Teraflex)....they don't last all that long, but in sand and grassy loamy areas...they hook up!!
I actually went riding with a buddy back in 1992ish that had an 88 CR500 with one of these strapped on the rear....I was on an XR600 following him on a set of powerlines...we were cruising along about 35mph...he was about 50-75 feet in front of me,then he crested over the the top of this hill and disappeared...then a second later a softball size boulder came shooting over the hill right over my head!!....those were fun days.

Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Yes we put our friends  kx450f 2013 up against our k5 on the tar ,so traction was the same, the k5 started from behind and went past it on the back wheel ,mind you the 450 was stock and the k5 has a balanced and windowed piston,a good stock k5 would of creamed it as well, mind you at my own supercross track ,were it tight and jumpy ,the 450 would kill it with it better power off the bottom and instant response off idle, our 5 in a 250 01 frame so handling close but the 450 has better suspension but guess what the 450 forks and wheel will bolt straight on the 250 01 triple clamps ,so will be testing this set up when we have spare time,as i spent a bit of time on the 13 450 and are a good fork, comparing to the 250f 13 forks which are on the hard side but i have revalved softer in the first half of the stroke.Guess what they did the same thing on the 14 250f kx.

Nice.
My Dad and I have been discussing using Super Moto wheels with a custom Skat trac paddle for the rear and a knobbie super motor wheel for the front.
It would be interesting to try it but that's a lot of money for a experiment.
So my Dad is having a rear rim mounted to a front hub and he will be using a super moto tire up front.
We'll know in a few weeks if that helps :-)
