New Member, Old Rider with a 2004 KX500
« on: July 04, 2013, 01:05:14 PM »
To celebrate my 59th birthday, I went out and found a slightly used 2004 KX500 and want to go fast. The only thing is, no electric start. :-D Well, I've been riding close to 50 years now and retired from regular racing in 1980 and vintage racing in 1998, so I'm just trail riding these days. Not new to 500's, as I have 2 Honda CR500's, but wanted to get a KX to round out the stable. Just finished a 3 week makeover of the old gal. Gonna be fun. I haven't ridden it yet.

Welcome aboard! I turn 57 in a few days and can still turn a 40 mile desert loop on my 500!

If the KX500 is running good, you will blow the doors off the CR500's  :-o
Welcome to the club Bengal65...  8-)
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

In side by side sand drags with basically stock engines (Pipes and reeds) I pull a little in 2nd, 3rd a little more, 4th going going, 5th GONE  8-)
Rolling drag in 2nd or 3rd you'll just walk away.
Don't get me wrong, CR500's are fast... but green is king  :-D

yeah green is king  8-)...
in my last race at september 21.  my 360-engine destroied the head-gasket in the first 5 practice laps and soaked the cooling liquid... so i took my good old 83 kx250 for race and battled down a 84 cr500 .. the track was deep sand with many long straights, so it was very hard work and i had to be faster out of the corners to get him...  3.overall of the day and at least second in championchip with only 10 points behind the champion...  :-) for next year i try to find a good used 87, 88 or 89 kx500 for the evo-class..
