Has anyone ever heard of a pro kx 500 rider named rocket red stanton or something like that.  Time frame would be late 80's to late 90's.  I might be all wrong on the name I know rocket is somewhere in the title of his name and he raced a kx 500.

There is a Jeff Stanton from that era but he rode RED (honda) Dont remember him going to team green. I could be wrong though.
Here are some 500 riders from that era.

1990 Jeff Ward Kaw
1991 Jean-Michel Bayle Hon
1992 Mike Kiedrowski Kaw
1993 Mike LaRocco Kaw
These were the 500 nationals winners.

I believe the rider you're referring to is "Rocket" Rex Staten. He used to be a big name mx rider in the 70's and early 80's.He used to ride mammoth mountain and other vet pro races on a kx 500.

He still rides on occasion.  He has a house out in Lucerne Valley where I sometimes race.  A while back a lot of desert racers used to have him do their suspension.

Sweet, I guess the guy must have been telling the truth.  I might have to look rocket up.  He only lives about an hour from me.  I heard he was from the Victoville and Lucerne valley is nearby. That was the other thing about the suspention that is wierd.  The title says its a 95 and numbers match but it has the old style front shocks (not inverted) and has a shock in the back that says ROCK SHOCK maybe one of his personel built shocks?  Heys guys thanks for the info.  Now i can do some reasearch since I know who im looking for.

It had a badly dented dg pipe so I just put the stock pipe back on.  The bike has green plastic but the frame has been powder coated purple and has purple front shock boots

I have Abe Baumann's 96 Rocket Rex KX500. I've detuned it some but it runs awesome.
Even the ported piston was engraved...

Rex Staten is the man you are speaking of......former golden gloves boxer and one hell of a racer.  I have some pics somewhere that I'll see if I can find......I once asked him "Hey Rex, whats with all the purple bikes?  What is it about purple that you like so much?"......Rex said to me...."MONEY".......Paul Krause and I looked at each other and Paul said "Purple is the color of money right Rex?".......hahahaha.......I have that video somewhere at home...........
I once heard my buddy Bill ask Danny Hamel after a race....
"How can someone who looks like a high school band tuba player go so d**n fast on a bike?!"
