« on: August 07, 2013, 07:54:10 AM »
This has probably been covered before but.... what is the best years for the donor frame to be? Does it mater if its a 250f or a 450f? Are they the same? I have a 2001 kx 500 engine just need to purchase the donor bike and looking for input. Thx

450s do have larger cradles then the 250s. My 2011 kx250f had no issues converting though

They are more common to find with a grenaded motor because people dont know how to take care of their stuff. Cheaper in price too. Good luck and leep us posted!

Hey mate,

Just to give you some options, I used a 08' klx450r frame with a 93 500 engine. No issues with that mod.

Would you mind posting some pics of it? I know we have a few members considering the swap.
If you can't post pics, email them to me and I will post them.

if you are a little bit talented you can take any of the kxf al-frames.
the 450-frame has a little bit more weight and is also stiffer as the 250-al-frame. thats all...
i for myself prefered the steal frame conversion, because i had this frame sitting in my garage and at least it was easier to do. welding steal is also easier as welding aluminium, but with enough money and the right technology, you can build and weld anything to an great bike or whatever...  :-)

I converted the actual klx450r with the alloy frame. I have also amended the wiring diagram to accommodate the penton ignition. I will put some pics up.

This is just to save people looking.

This is the topic when I converted it.

http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,6778.0.html

Took it to the Kenilworth Chook Chase a couple of weekends back and some mates were with me with video cameras.  I will try to post the video in the next few weeks.  Awesome grunt with a headlight.  Much better than the 450.

I will get some more pics when I can.
