last year someone had posted a detailed comparison of kx 250'a and how they have changed over the years.  Could anyone help me find that post?

Is there something specific you are looking for? That might help finding the post you are looking for.

I believe it was treedodgingfool and compared engine and chassis differences and how they related to trail/woods riding

I agree with what treedodging fool said for woods riding in that linked thread that Foxx4Beaver provided. The 2004 motor is incredible bone-stock for that effort. The 2003 ain't bad at all. Have not ridden the 1998 but find my 1999 to be really good for woods riding and they share the same "1851" cylinder. Had a 2006 model which is same at 2007 and also agree with what treedodging fool said for woods riding it. Good bike but the 99/03/04 are better tools for riding woods in my experience. No doubt the 1998 also good but I haven't ridden. IIRC, the 97-99 KX250s received bike of the year awards from MXA so the 99 can't be that bad (in response to negative comments from polarbus in that linked thread).

Thanks guys! I'm a diehard Kawi junkie. Until I find something better to race & ride, I'll keep on recycling my old scoots.

Currently, I hodge-podged my favorite bits together.  I slapped my favorite '03 KX250s forks onto my '04 & big-bored the '04s engine to a 300. The chassis is about the perfect mix for rocks & sand with those '03 forks, and the motor? Take everything that makes a '04 KX250 motor good & amplifiy it. The 300 kit, at least for me off-road, gets my hand off the clutch a little, allowed me to smooth out and carry a taller gear without clutch abuse. Even with a Eline lighting coils flywheel effect, 13/52 final gear combo & FMF "Gnarly" pipe, this bike is fast, off the bottom & every where.  Literally a 300cc MXer, nothing like the pokie KTM 300's.

I gave the '07 KX250 to my husband as a back-up for his '04 KX250/500 hybrid he normally rides. He's done quite a bit of set-up with the '07 and got it better behaved for himself, but it still has it's moments like a crazy ex-girlfriend.

My '03, which donated it's forks for the '04, is currently parked. Debating on what direction to go with it when I rebuild the platform. I did aquire some Pro Circuit links to try, but the debate is whether to bring it back as a 250 or big-bore it too.

I loved my 04 250 engine. That 300 jobie sounds pretty good but my 99 250 is good enough. I need more KXs soon!
