Greetings. Would someone talk me out of this, please?
« on: May 24, 2013, 01:24:36 PM »
I'm probably going to go pick this up tomorrow craigslink. I'm not new to motorcycles. However, I've never swung my leg over a K5. I understand the whole "You'll shoot your eye out!" mentality, but respect the bike and she'll USUALLY respect you.
Is this a bad deal? Other than cracks in the rear shock mount and motor mounts, is there anything I need to be aware of?

Here are the details in case the link doesn't work:
1993 KX 500...original owner
All 3 shocks rebuilt.
New swing arm bearings and bushings.
New top end.
E-line stator with dual 100w outputs.
Baha designs dual-sport kit.
Clean title for street.

Thanx.

Did you buy it?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Yeah, I bought it. Owner states (supposedly) a 540 steel sleeve kit inside. I don't know if it's true, but hitting the pipe in 3rd gear on asphalt made up my mind. Brought it home, went to ride the next day and noticed milk on the oil glass  :? :x At least it was noticed before anything bad happened.
Also, the front forks that were just redone lost a lower seal...So, forks are off at the local Pro-Action guy and I'm tearing the side case off this evening. Pics and such will be up in the Technical Section tomorrow probably.
Thanks for the welcome.

A stock K5 will effortlessly lift the front wheel in 3rd on pavement even before it hits the pipe  :-o
Check your water pump seal and take a good hard look at the water pump shaft.
Sweet bike.
Keep us in the loop, we like pics
