Frame Thread Strippped

I just picked up a 2000 KX 125 and took it completely apart to rebuild. There is one thread on the frame that is compromised. Part of the bolt is stuck in the threads and rusted in there. There is no head or tail to the bolt. I'm planning on getting the frame powder coated but first...How can I get this fixed and have a new thread put in the same position? It's the thread that holds the exhaust bracket under the gas tank.

Any thoughts, help, ideas, or experience is welcomed!

If you are talking about the tab that has a nut welded on the back side... I grind the old nut off and weld a new nut on. Usually when I do that I use grade 8 nut and bolt as replacements. That bolt sees quite a bit of the vibration and does break often.
It's hard to keep a drivers license riding a 2 stroke dirt bike on the street.  If you drive within the law they are VERY boring.

Very nice write-ups SB. I haven't had good luck with those screw extractors/easy outs either. I've broken at least 6. I prefer the square fluted ones.

Yep, I use those too and I like them better as well.
I just pictured what I had that was quick at hand  :lol:

Yes that tab is what I was referring to. It is most likely going to need to be drilled out, and I'll most likely need a new nut to be attached since the bolt looks very rusted in the nut.. I don't have the tools to do it myself, nor would I want to, so what type of auto shop would be able to fix this? and what would it cost roughly to have it done? I want to get this fixed before I get my frame powder coated.

I would look for a smaller weld, machine, or fab shop.
Prices can vary greatly so the best thing to do is call around.
My guess, 20-90 bucks depending on the shop.  :-o

Just so anyone else who comes up with this issue knows: I brought it to be powder coated and the guy doing the coating fixed this. He said he drilled out the old bolt and re-threaded it. It's like new!
