When cold, I lean the bike over until fuel comes out the carb overflow.
Straighten the bike up.
Pull the choke, kick it a few times and it starts right up but I kick it a full stroke.
You might want to invest in a compression release from Larry Wiechman.
You'll be glad you did.

I've tried the "lean it over" trick to simulate the tickler on my 490 Maico but it hasn't helped. The compression release just might be what I need, thanks for the heads up.
the tickler on the maico and the lean over trick, are oly ways to make sure thats enough gas is in the carb...
starting the big smoker is to know the right methode to kick it. if its cold i need 10-12 kicks , if its warm never more than 3 ...
I lift the piston to top dead center, where is the most compression. then lift the kicker to 3/4 of its way from bottom to top. next kick means to start softly, if you feels you com over the tdc give more strength to the kick.
and all started with a big bang ...
compression release is the next big thing, i want to install. it will make it easier...
