1991 KX 250 Leaking oil and head leak
« on: May 07, 2013, 11:55:47 AM »
Hey guys! Jake here. I got my Dad's 91 out for a spin today, got to ride it hard. When I was done I noticed where the clutch cable pin thingy that goes into the clutch at the cases was gear oil...and lots of it. Anyone know what it may be? Wore out pin or a seal? And the gear oil is always grey, like my transmission is breaking everytime I ride. It's got that nasty cold jerk when you shove it in gear when its cold. I'm also leaking exhaust where the pipe goes into the head. What seal or thingamabob is failing?

(also I can't find how to adjust the idle on the carb either :(

The clutch arm seal sounds like its leaking. The grey is from water in the oil, change the oil. if its still getting water in it change the water pump seal.As far as jerking when its cold, adjust the clutch cable. the thingamabod leaking at the cylinder is an exhaust gasket. They squish and the springs stretch and they leak, replace the copper gasket and the springs.

you should also change the small bearings at the clutch actuator arm. if the bearings are worn out is often the reason for damage the seal and oil leak. change the waterpump seal and also the bearing.
at least you need a new headgasket, which is often also the reason for cooling water in the gear oil.
after that water and gear oil will stay where it has to be in the engine. you can buy aftermarket seal kits from athena or cometic . thats cheaper and nearly same quality as oem..
