KX 125 2008 conversion to 144cc
« on: December 28, 2012, 10:32:35 PM »
Anyone out there done the conversion? I'm looking to get some more herbs out of my baby, and before you all start bagging the idea, I've had a severe spinal injury, so very reluctant to jump back to a 250 (2 stroke only).
I hear the cases need to be modded, is this true, for piston clearance?
I read also with the Athena conversion the compression is increased from the standard 11:1 to 14:1 at low speed, I'd imagine there'd be some ignition curve work also to be done, anyone????
Seriously, is it worth the expense, serious power increase for the bux? I plan on adding a full Scalvini system, including the Carbon muffler. This is a company display bike, but I also race it... so it must look the part, hence it's so d**n clean.
If anyone else has some funky ideas to squeeze more out, I'd love to hear. I have spoken to a company in the UK whom can get the cc out to 158 using the original cylinder core, however I'd imaging this may be an issue with cooling.

I've read many times that the 144cc kits make a significant difference on 125's.

Here's a board member that can help you out.

Good luck!

The 144cc kit does make a very nice, noticeable difference. Doing the 4mm stroker crank mod finishes it off and makes a very nice, fun, strong little motor.

Team Green's Destry Abbott rocked the world on KX500's and more recently on 450's........but he still has a soft spot for small bore 2 smokers in his heart....if he can do this on a 125, imagine what a 144 will do......behold!!

Something about the sound of a crisp 125 will always get my attention...especially when there's a FAST rider on board.

That was a sweet looking facility where ever that is.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

I have a 144 and we did not have to do anything other than cut the powervalve. I use mine for hare scrambles and I have found that I need to replace the O-ring head gaskets everyother piston or it blows the head gasket. I have a feeling that its cause the inner O-ring is real close to the bore.

Thanks for all the info guys, good stuff to get clear bulls**t free responses. Don't know about the GoPro video, don't look like he's running the thing too hard to me!
I have decided after much research to go with Eric Gore, so the cylinder is being packed up today and sent over. Hope this goes well..... am concerned about the upper O-Ring, and possible cooling issues, I do know the Athena cylinder has larger water jacket. Time will tell.
See my next subject about these Scalvini pipes.... just putting it together now, (the post). Looking at seriously conflicting tests about 4 months apart in MX Action magazine. One say on a SX 125/150 dyno test at 11,000 rpm they were up 7hp, as the standard pipe tapered off badly at 10,000rpm, now in this months mag, they have a YZ 250 in there, and this test they say the STANDARD pipe has a higher top end HP figure (I know that ain't all that important on a 250) but they really bag the pipes this time.
Oh yeah, happy new year all fellow KX riders!

Just out of curiosity where and what rod do you use to do the stroker?

have you looked into the  KX125/144 DEP Pipe?  Wouldn't hurt to ask Eric what pipe he would prefer.
