I stay out of threads like this on purpose.   (mostly to the request of my wife)   as I tend to always be the one that slips off the handle, and gets baned from sites..

Ill simply say..

i am from the u.k so i will not try and tell the u.s what to do.
however we had/have a problem over here with knives and kid/teens stabbing 1 another. they brought in new laws so a person under the age of 21 could not buy an item with a blade (even scissors) .
in the kitchen draw of almost every house hold you will find a carving knife with a blade of around 9 inches and can be accessed by anyone over 3ft tall. this law made no difference what so ever over here the problem is worse now i would say. if some one is set on doing some thing no rule or law will stop them. there are literally 100s of item laying around most houses that could be used as lethal weapons, tools, vehicals, chemicals ect ect.... the problem is the person not the item. i did here a quote on the u.k news from a guy in the u.s 'the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun'
over here we have very little right to protect our family and property never mind the right to bare arms, guns and knives are not allowed for personal protection.
even though alot of criminals are armed :?

Making things illegal does not get rid of the problem. The problem is the person or persons in question. The U.S. has many laws regarding drugs. But drug addicts will still get there illegal drugs very easily. Making guns of any kind, and 30 shot magazines illegal will not stop a freakin demented killer from killing. As we see in Britain they have banned knives now. Still chasing a problem. I guess they will ban spoons and forks  next and probably fire, but the bad guys will still kill.

It's 2am, you here a loud noise, someones broke in, and your daughter scream. You get up and look down at the night stand, there's a gun and a phone, which would you choose.

So you choose to use the phone, who did you call, someone with a gun, hope they get there in time.

This would be a good way to employ a whole bunch of unemployed vets, as school marshalls. This way teacher can teach.

Cops are only there  to clean up the mess!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day!
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night , Light a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life!

Wait a minute......you mean to tell me that if we make guns illegal, then the gun violence problem will go away?!  Hell, why did't we think of this sooner!!  While we're at it we should make heroin and crystal meth illegal too!!

You want my guns Obama?  I bet you don't have a hair on your ass big enough to come alone and take them.
I once heard my buddy Bill ask Danny Hamel after a race....
"How can someone who looks like a high school band tuba player go so d**n fast on a bike?!"

Bob,

The last line of your post reminds me of an old saying.  It goes something like "When seconds count..........the Police are only minutes away."

Motorrad,

I'd just like to say that I am both surprised and impressed that you posted this.  Also in definite agreement.

I'm also a little ashamed that I was surprised.  Its mostly because you live in Kalifornia. I didn't think that many people in that state shared your sentiment.

I'm glad there are at least one or two sensible people over there.

Probably.  Or something worse.

Good luck.  They are already getting hard to find due to the high demand over the last week, and the prices are high if you do find one.

Yea I know.

They have never "done it" for me.   Im a HUGE WW2 collector.      (my 1600lb (empty) gunsafe is full)..    hence the reason I never picked one up..

But if I "cant have one"    I "NEED ONE"
