« on: November 08, 2012, 07:15:09 AM »
Anyone in So Cal have a 43/64 drill bit? If you want to sell  or borrow, let me know. I will pay shipping both ways.

I found them very cheap on eBay when I bought mine.
It's probably a piece of junk but it worked just find for drilling out engine cases:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=43%2F64+drill&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=43%2F64+drill+bit&_sacat=0
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

i cant remember exactly what sized i used for mine, but it should be real close to that. i'll let you know when i get home in a few hrs, if it works for you i can ship it no prob.
by the way, to get a straight hole, can take a side cover off so you have a flat side 90* to the hole, i put mine on a bridgeport and with some parrallel blocks got her nice and flat, then clamped the engine down, then lined the hole up by eye and fine tweaked taking a couple thousandths depth drill to make sure drill was centered in hole, then punched right thru.
e-z.

theres no need for cobalt, carbide, or any coated tip on the drill. it will punch thru that cast aluminum like butter, plus youre only taking like .060 off each side of the existing hole.

How long does the bit need to be to drill the cases? Also, are you guys hand drilling them or using a drill press or mill?

I used my small mill. Have heard of hand drilling and drill press too. My bit was about 71/2 in long. More than long enough. My bit was a poor chinese wanna be bit. Only good for one hole.
