Sprocket setup KX250

Yo guys...new to the forum.  Want to get your thoughts on what your setup is or your favorite set up for trail riding.  I'm running 13/48.  Top end is sweet tones of power.  Thinking of running a 13/52 to get a lot more bottom end for those hill climbs and tight single track action.

Welcome  to the site Jlucero.Going from 13/48 to 13/52 is a big jump....that "sweet top end" won't be so sweet anymore...but if you're not into long WOT runs,it should'nt be too much of an issue.If it were me,I'd go with 13/50...which is what I used to always run on my 250's,and if you feel as though you still need lower gearing,then by all means go a little lower. 

Use the "Search" option on here too,and you can get a good idea what alot of the guys are running for gearing,and in what conditions.

cool,I think you'll be happier with 13/50 than 52...it works really well for all purpose/general riding.52 would be aimed more at mostly tight trails and uphill battles.With the 50,you still get good low gearing for trails,but still have good top end run out on long straights.

Hey there. What year is the bike? I have a '97 and an '01.  The Tranny's have very different ratios between the two.  The OE final drive ratios were as follows.

1997=13/49
2001=13/48

I chose to run 13/50 on the 1997. That gearing gives me the best all around power delivery and still allows me to run a long logging road in fifth without the bike screaming. I don't have any issues with low end torque in a motocross situation either.

However, on the '01 with a 13/50 combo, the bike wants to pull my arms off. But on a long straight, even in fifth I run out of Revs. Mind you I love it in tight twisty stuff, or when jumps are close to the turn exits (Indoor Tracks). For Trails with long straights or to stretch out my fuel, I run a 14/50. But forget about going slow up big rocky hills. I loose a bit of throttle control managing the power band when slow and technical. But top end in the straights the KX has lots on tap. IMHO, I think the stock 13/48 gearing would be the best all around ratio for this bike. I've just invested much for the 50 tooth Twin Ring Renthal, so I choose to run it, lol.

Thanks for the info. It's a 2000. The stock setup was 13/49.

What up blood, glad you made it on here. How was the ride at penny pines yesterday? I would  get a fly wheel weight also.... I used to run them on the two 50's...

The ride kicked my ass yesterday. Need to get the bike tuned for the trails. It was still fun. Yeah also going to order a flywheel weight and new exhaust. Fmf gnarly pipe. Than should be good to go.
