Barn-fresh 87 KX250 Advice Please.....
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:19:33 AM »
Just picked up a ratty 87 250. Got it for the new disc brake class AHRMA started, but didn't realise this year had rear disc till it was too late and it's not legal. But I always like the style of this era and it could be raced in local Disco class. It's growing on me....

On the plus side-
Mostly complete, minimal rust, suspension was supposedly re-built (and it feels like it) before it was parked, decent PC pipe and "trick custom purple sub-frame". YUK.

Down side-
Fubared cylinder (although it's never been ported) and lower end has drawn some trash/moisture. Mains are junk, but lower rod bearing seems free....

Anyone ride/race one of these? Please share an opinion. Also, where's a good place for a re-plate job and cheap parts besides #Bay?

I bought an 87 new. Picked it up from the warehouse in Savanah, GA. Try doing that now a days. Bike was perfect motor wise to me. Was an absolute tractor, short shift an roll. Very thin, front end not as good as the others. After reading every test I deamed the KX the best and bought one April 1987, hope to find on again and but 89 front end on it.
