1989 KX 250 crankshaft and bearing...?
« on: November 10, 2012, 03:58:01 AM »
I am currently rebuilding the engine and getting the right parts is quite difficult...

Can someone tell me witch parts will fit my 89 kx250 engine. I need a new crankshaft or just the rod..., bearings and the bearing behind the clutch basket.

will parts from newer bikes fit the older ones?

According to Wiseco.com 78-07 KX250 all used the same rod kit which retails for 91.91:
Wiseco Part#:    WPR133
Product Type:    Connecting Rods
Description:    Rod Kit - Kaw. KX250 '78-07
They do not have a complete crank not does anyone else that I could find.
According to Kawasaki the 89 KX250 crank is year specific: FITS 89 KX250 - P/N 13031-1292
That is not to say that another year won't fit, this is Kawasaki's info.
Perhaps another member has had experience with interchanging other years....
Then again, if your crank halves are good then I would get a rod kit and have it rebuilt.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

thanks, the crank itself is in pretty good nick. If anyone here can tell me if a newer rod would fit i will buy one Wiseco's  :-)

Problem with the older bikes right... intel on parts is not always reliable

If you are in doubt, simply call Wiseco 1-800-321-1364 or 440-951-6600
Or compare their data:
Center to Center:    125.00mm
Lower Bore Diameter:    32.00mm
Lower Width:    20.00mm
Material Type:    Steel
Piston Pin Fit:    Bearing
Type:    I-Beam
Upper Bore Diameter:    22.00mm
Upper Width:    22.00mm
If I were you I would do both.
