Engine Ice

Hi!

I used Engine Ice in my 2004 kx125 for the last 2 years.
Now i noticed that the freezing point seems to be higher than it should.
It?s now about +5.0 ?F, and should be -26 ?F.  :-o
Afaik only the anti-rust protection is supposed to decrease, but never the frost protection effect.

My gauge is ok, i checked it with other fluids.
So, reason enough for me to ban it from my shelves.

The manual of my kawi only mentions coolant "with a greenish appearance".
Would you say that any blue/green/yellow coolant for cars, that can deal with aluminium, ist ok for my screamer?

Here is what the manufacture says regarding replacement:

How often do I need to change it and are there any special requirements?

Most every coolant product will work best when changed somewhat regularly?at minimum, we?d recommend once a year. For racing applications, we actually recommend twice per year. The cleaner you can keep your cooling system and the fresher you can keep a fluid, the better it will perform. There are no special requirements for using Engine Ice. For any coolant and anytime you are changing coolant, we recommend a simple solution of distilled water and white distilled vinegar, both available at your local grocery store.

Alright, thank?s for that info, i?ll definitely go for standard stuff.
I don?t want to say that fast riders don?t benefit from it, but for a relaxed guy like me, this seems like getting more horsepower by using anodized engine screws...  8-)

So, green car coolant for aluminium engines should be ok?!

Never.  Ever run car coolant in a motorcycle.      They all contain abrasive material to keep the cooling system clean..   Which happens to take out motorcycle waterpump seals

I use engine ice.
I replace it once a year.
Never have any problems.

Is there a motorcycle specific coolant?  I guess it must be silica free?

I have fallen in love with  ZIp-Ty's coolant.         put it in, and forget about it..    never change it ever again...
