I have been following the Topic "Checking for Sleeved Cylinder"
And "tobys 2 strokes" made a statement about sleeving his cylinders.
Given a choice, would you rather plate your cylinder or sleeve it and why?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Plate it.....alot less hassle,easier to match ports,better heat transfer,especially when running forged,and it does'nt cost anymore than sleeving,in some cases it's cheaper and faster to plate it these days.

I had a 93 KX250 I had sleeved before,it was fine...nothing wrong with sleeving,I just prefer plating.

I prefer a sleeved cylinder. The biggest reson for me would have to be cost I am usually on a tight budgit and seem to always have more bikes than I realy need ( at least acording to some).
for $40 to $50 dollers you can have a new bore and I have even chucked them in the lathe and done my own before.
I dont do the top end maintanance like I should so when you wipe out a piston if you have a plated cyl. your starting over. The plated ones do wear longer if you dont damage them.
Sleeves keep my cost way down...

Plating for me because you can run many pistons befor replating.
And for the same reason Foxx says.
For the good info, do you bore it every time with a new piston and how many times can it be don with a sleeve?

 nikasil and OEM cast Kawi pistons for me.  I tried a LA sleeve and a Wiseco back in the mid 80's and nothing but problems. Maybe it was the shop that sleeved my cyl incorrectly, but non the less, it left a lasting BAD taste in my mouth.

About a year or so ago, I asked this same question. I sent my cylinder to Millenium Technologies for replating.
They did an excellent job. They strip it all down and replate it, they also give you the option to buy a piston from them. They will match that piston to the cylinder.
In the end, I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the replate.

For all the reasons stated above I would plate. I do have some sleeved cylinders, but these are on big bores and the skirt gets thin when you bore it so in those instances I use sleeves. A plated cylinder will far outlast a sleeved cylinder 1 for 1.
