500 Jetting Questions [Posted for bubbalunatic259]

I have a 1994 KX 500, that I love, however it fouls spark plugs on a regular basis. I have leaned the jetting way out. I live in El Paso TX where the altitude is about 3000ft to 4000ft above sea level. I am currently running a 162 main, 55 pilot, and a NM82 needle on the second clip position. I run at 40:1 premix ratio. I have a V-Force Reed Cage, and a FMF Gnarly Pipe. Can someone out there help me? I have a fresh top end, could it possibly be ignition timing? Thanx!

Have you check the coil is grounded properly,no paint or stuff between?
When did you change the "sparkplugcaps" ?
Killer button?

  That is a good point. I have found that cleaned previously-fouled plugs foul again quite easily, to the point where I just throw them away.  Not sure why, voodoo or something.  His jetting is quite close. Mine has never fouled a plug in it's like. If nothing else works, try a BPR8ES.  The nose sticks out a bit further (the P part) so they run cleaner.  Doordie has a good suggestion too about the electrics, although I would think it would start poorly. Cam.

A bad grounded coil can "rattle" in a specified rpm and then after a time sieze the plug,just my experience.

That thing on the right side of the bars will keep the plug from fouling.  Don't be escared.

I run a B8EG, I do quite a bit of desert riding and racing. I use a new plug most of the time i foul it.

If the timing is ok, check and make sure you don't have a head gasket leaking into the cylinder or maybe a crank seal leaking letting tranny oil in to the cylinder.

Well if all the simple things check out,the wet seal leaking would be a good thing to check now as mentioned above.

There's alot of information on jetting here! I'd first suggest checking A: your crank seal (wet side) B: compression C: powervalves.

All working? Read Paul's jetting chart. Find where you stand in the chart and try it. No good? Do a search on this site, you will find ALOT of good information on jetting. Every bike is diffrent to jetting, but try what is listen in the chart. I'll see if I can find it again.

I've been working on my jetting for the past few months and been keeping up with my work in progress if you have time to go through it, alot of great members have been puting their input also.
