Race Gas?
« on: June 30, 2012, 10:46:04 AM »
What fuel do most of you use?

I've always used premium pump gas, but with the constant reformulation of gasoline to match the seasons, I'm not so sure that premium pump gas is the best thing anymore.

I've found listings for a few stations that carry race gas around here (SoCal) and I'm wondering if it's worth it. There are race fuels at these stations that are legal for street use. It's not true "race gas" but it's at least a notch above common premium pump gas.

Also: if I store my fuel (prior to mixing oil) in a metal drum, how long can I reasonably expect it to stay good?

Thanks!

I run a 25/75 mix of premium (corn) fuel and VP-C12.The only reason I mix it,is because here in New England, all fuel is mixed with Ethanol(corn). Not only does it make engines run extremely poor,it also tears up carbs/fuel systems....if you let anything sit for long periods of time,4 months or more,it gums/clogs jets and floats. There's ALOT of engine failures because of it....it's one of the worst creations man has ever developed!!!

I don't think South Cali is using Ethanol yet  :|...so I'm willing to bet your premium pump is 50 times better than here.

As for your question..."is it worth it?".Is your bike pinging/detonating?...if it's not, you're fine with pump.If you're running wide open alot,I would suggest a mild mix of pump and race fuel.

Pump gas,at least New England pump gas,I try to use within 3 weeks of purchase(even with Ethanol treatment)....and I know guys that have stored VP and Sunocco Cam2 for a year in metal drums with no problems.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Apparently our summer formula does have some ethanol (less than 6 percent).

I've found a web page with listings of stations that sell race gas at the pump. Unfortunately, it only applies to NorCal, SoCal and Nevada.

So, for those who might find this helpful:
