« on: July 11, 2012, 04:45:23 AM »
I'm looking at options to put lights on my 86 KX5,I know I can direct swap a later KX5 electronics to my 86 but what about a 250 Setup? The Honda Boys do it to the 500's with great results, anybody tried it on a green machine?

the stator on kx 250 81-88 is the same as kx 500 86-88. so this means you can just wire a 250 cdi straight on. very easy done i think. i started a thread on this but took it no further. there are a lot of different cdi's you can use with your stator from 125 250 and 500. pick um up cheap of ebay and just plug and play. as i said in my last thread it would be cool to be able to switch between while on the fly. hmmm k5 with 125 cdi  :-o :-D

Im more interested in the lighting capability of the setup then changing the power delivery,My bike has more power and grunt then I will ever need,I live up North In Canada Eh,lol,  :-D Right now its awesome,24 hours of daylight but very soon every night Im gonna start losin a few minutes of daylight which then will turn into a few hours until it flipflops to 24hrs of darkness in December/January,my dirt season ends in late september/early october when the snow flys and the sleds come out,Im just trying to make the best of a short riding season,I guess from what I've read the easiest thing to do is swap out my complete setup for a 89-04 KX500 setup and add a lighting coil,Thanks Guys
