85 KX250D1 Resto Project
« on: June 11, 2012, 10:29:49 AM »
Hi everyone,

well here is my latest resto project, and my first Kawasaki resto. Boy, aren't the parts easy to find......................? As bad as it looks it is fairly original but has just been neglected. Engine runs, cylinder is toast, needs a total overhaul. So far I have found and bought a NOS cylinder, rod kit, piston and rings, gaskets as well as lots of odds and ends that are missing or damaged.

I have an issue with the pipe, it has been patched up at the front where it has rusted away and blown out. I could spend a few hours with the welder and cut in some new bends, but is there a later pipe that would fit up with modifying? DG do an '88 pipe which looks similar? If anyone can tell me for sure what works and what doesn't that would help greatly.

The right crankcase half has had a hit and been re welded and covered with silicone! I have gone and bought an '86 replacement part. Now looking at the clutch cover gaskets, it says the '85 part is a one model only fitment. Not being too familiar with Kawasaki part numbers, can anyone confirm that a) the '86 crankcase half will fit, and b) the '85 clutch cover gasket will work?

Here is a pic from the add when I bought it. When I get enough parts together I will make a start on restoring it and take more pics.

Any help you guys can give will be greatfully accepted :-D.

Cheers
Adam
