Rear Tire Size

Hi All,

I just got a new set of Excel rims and decided to try a pair of the Dunlop MX51's.  They don't make the rear in 120/90, only the 120/80.  Since we're only talking about a small difference in height, do you think I will notice any difference?

Are you guys running the 12/80's or 90's in the rear and to you prefer one or the other?

I run 120-90s mostly because that's what came on my bike.If anything,the 80s will be a hair tighter to stretch on.

According to the specs of the MX51 (120/80) and the D952 (120/90), there doesn't seem to be too much of a difference.  The difference in the overall width and diamater of the tire is about 1/4".  I actually like the fact that the MX51 is not as wide because I just put a new silencer on.

As a general rule, the lower the aspect ratio number (ie: 80, 90, 100)  the stiffer the sidewall gets. This means the lower the aspect the "firmer" or "less flex" the sidewall will have. Woods guys like larger aspect rations for better "give and flex" over slower speed technical terrain, and the WOT MX guys benigit from a lower aspect ratio for precise feel on the track.
