unknown rim
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:15:48 PM »
I just discovered that the rim on my 01 KX 500 is not the right rim.  I am trying to figure out what this rim is supposed to go with.
There are no part numbers on the hub. The rim is a DID rim and the numbers on that give me no info.  Thanks for any help.

18 inch rim
17 mm axle
152mm center to center sprocket bolts 6 bolts total
125mm center to center rotor bolts  4 bolts total
160mm outside to outside from sprocket to rotor

Hmmm.
The last year of the 17mm axle for the KX500 was 1984 and that was a drum brake.
Can you post some detailed pics of the hub?
I have hundreds of hub photo's and a lot of detailed hub measurements to compare with.
You can check out the measurements I have posted here;

I think I have gone through every bike on your site.  The closest to what I have is on the early 80's KX250's.
I'll get some pics for you.

Yeah the biggest trip up is that 17mm axle...
Do you know what the outside of bearing to outside of bearing measurement is?

It's not hard.
Take a quarter and hold it over the ends of one of the bearings.
Insert a piece of dowel, wire, or the axle through the middle of the bearing from the opposite side of the hub until it bottoms on the quarter.
Mark the dowel, wire, or axle then pull it out and measure it.
It will be close enough for what we are doing.
