i have been buying kx250 outer clutch covers to make a 2 piece job for my kx500s. i have just been getting various years, trying to find one that would match up good to my 500 side cover.
anyway, i bought a whole inner/ outer from a kx250 for cheap. auction on ebay said 91. i thought something didn't looked right, but it was cheap. it came in yesterday, immediatly i could tell something wasn't normal. after looking at old pictures of my old bikes {have had almost every year kx250 84-95} i came to conclusion this cover could only fit an 85 production motor. 85 was first year for power valve, acuator for governer was on the right case more or less. 86 was wierd as well, had the little 2 bolt flange on clutch cover, actuator was there. 87 was like a kx500, arm protruded out of clutch cover, little plastic cover concealed arm. 88 is when they actually started coming with a 2 piece cover for the clutch.
so, i almost positive these covers i have can only fit an 85. they are not made like the production parts. the oe kawi alumin um back then was kind of cheesy, real thin like any, but also had numbers and stuff inside, and was not 2 peice. what i have is aluminum also, but like a sand cast, and really thick. very strong. there are no numbers anywhere, iv'e seen works parts for old bikes before, this kind of resembles something along those lines.
take a look
it is hard for the pictures to tell, but this is a serious cover. it is built great. i have never seen the clutch side of a 85 works sr250 , but wonder if this was from one??
anyone have any idea?
