2006 KX 250 REBUILD
« on: April 12, 2012, 09:06:22 AM »
I started this bike a few months back but ive only just managed to get some pics uploaded.

I started off totally stripping the bike and sending the frame off to a friend to have the Head angle altered to get rid of the (to steep head angle) problem.
Big thanks to KXDINO for all the help and info

Thanks for starting a build thread...I've been hoping to see this as a complete bike.

How much was the head angle altered?

Well it was a friend who did it for me so it was only ?50.
I've fitted the race tech gold valve kit type 1 in the forks and the G3-LD in the rear now and the suspension is on.
I'm mainly waiting on delivery of my wheels to finish her off now, will get some pics up with my original wheels on though.
I've also put in a Boyesen X-wing, has anyone tried one of these and know if it actually does anything ha?

What Kevin is asking is how many degrees was it altered. I'd like to know as well. Is there any others that did this? This isn't exactly something that is easy to do R&D on. It's pretty much a one-shot, one kill deal.

My wheels arrived yesterday so ill be riding it on wed next week so ill be able to tell you if its actually worked haha, ill be taking my stock 05 with me aswell so i can jump from one to the other to compare.

One i first went about to fix the kx250 05/08 ill handing frame ,i lengthen the pull rods by 3mm ,same as pc link,it improve it a bit so i knew we were heading in the right direction.Next step was to alter frame from 26 to26.5 degrees, bingo" no more loosing the front end half way around a corner ,and can power slide with confidence. And the best thing is you can fine tune with different length pull rods.See Kawi made a mistake in my line of thought , they went from 27 degrees and 113mm trail in 04 to 26 degrees and 105mm trail,in 05 to 08 .Back to back test i have done between std and modded , and i can tell you the std one is a accident waiting to happen. In giving the 05 to 08 less trail you give it less grip around a corner.Less offset in the triple clamps would of helped as well ,but as far as i know kawi didn;t change offset between 04 to 05/08.they just steepen the head angle. No wonder team green used offset bearing cups on that model. As for adam bike it looks to be a weapon,im confident he will be impressed with this mod as i have for over a year.It got to the stage were i was going to sell it because of this fault? Not now i will keep it for as long as i am able to ride dirt bikes.      KXDINO.

I love the graphics also! Who made them? Kinda gives it a retro look.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

The Seat cover is from Danger UK they make custom graphics and seat covers. I got the graphics from Merge Deals, there both UK firms.
Just awaiting my JT gear to complete the full retro look.
