1/2 or 3/4 turn throttles
« on: April 10, 2012, 06:33:20 PM »
Do they make throttles for the KX500 with a longer throw than stock? I have only found one place so far. Looking for something that's not so expensive.

Thanks,

I don't know of any that make you have to twist the throttle farther to get WOT, as you would run in to a limitation of human anatomy (your wrist can only twist so far). However there are some that have different cam profiles that adjust the rate at different parts of the twist. G2 makes the throttle tamer. One of the cams for it makes the first portion of the throttle slower which would make our bikes a little more carefree in the woods and other places. They don't make one specifically for our bike but I'm sure if you call em, one of the models oughta fit.

I don't think it would be a good idea to have a throttle with a throw so long that you would have to twist, regrip, then twist again to get full throttle.....if that were the case, you would not be able to close the throttle all the way while riding with a single twist of the wrist when you are close to full throttle......could be dangerous.

Motion Pro makes a throttle kit that comes with different cams, but it is $133.

I played with something along the lines of what you are saying as a kid. I used a 4 stroke honda tube, something like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CB-CL-350-360-Throttle-Tube-CB350-CL350-CB360-CL360-hand-grip-handlebar-/120928941344?hash=item1c27ed3520&item=1209289

Notice how the cable eye hole is in closer to the handle bar, thats where the slower ratio comes in. I just used a cr housing with it & it did require more turning. I wouldnt recomend it though because you loose that instant wheel loft you come to rely on riding a big bore 500
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

& to the people I like  FYYFF

Absolutely agree!!....what happens when you NEED that split second it takes to re-grip to shut the throttle off to grab the front brake to miss a big ole tree or truck sized boulder  :?....could be quite painful.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Rode my KX500 down the street last weekend. No give on the tire and in traffic. I could see getting in trouble pretty fast with it needing a burst of acceleration and pulling the wheel instead. As I am working on putting this one on the street I am looking for a slower throttle to put on. When the tire is stuck down to the asphalt the power of these things really hits home!
