86 kx500 exhaust idea's
« on: May 25, 2012, 10:34:53 AM »
Okay here is my dilemma.  I have an 86 kx500 that I just got running after a year,

Im looking upgrade my stock exhaust to an after market one. My local Kawasaki dealer has a mint exhaust( pro circuit pipe, fmf silencer) from an 93' kx500. He is asking 120 for the package.

I understand that from 89-04 theyre the same pipe. But could this pipe fit my 86'?  I dont mind fab-ing some supports but i honestly dont feel like bending the hell outta a fresh pipe.

Who has some worth while input on my situation.

and no a new style pipe is not the same.  New meaning 1987 and up.  1986 has the old style frame,  in 1987 they changed them.  If you look at the frame on your bike the wish bone part of the frame in back of motor , swoops backwards,  newer models 1987 up that wish bone swoops frontwards.  For sure keep your old pipe and send it off to a pipe maker, and have a new one made.  Kind of expensive but no choice.

He's right about the frame. It sucks ass, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get something on it. I have a 86kx too.
