Ohio here too, which part are you in? You really dont need any mods in the forests here, engine wise that is, barkbusters and maybe radiator guards and a skid plate may be nice. My 99 KX 500 is stock except for the suspension being setup for my weight (300lbs), and a set of Renthal bars with a higher rise than stock. Gearing, pipe and silencer are all stock as atleast I feel its the best blend of everything from woods riding to when it opens up to gravel roads and strip mines. I will say that the best tire combo I've found is the Michelin M-12 front with either a Michelin S-12 or Maxxis SI rear. Hope this helps, enjoy that bike!
