aluminium exhaust !
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:27:44 AM »
im bored ,we thought at work (ozweld) we could make an expansion pipe out of 3mm aluminium as we have shed loads and then anodise it green ..sounds completely bonkers i know ,not sure the ali could stand the temperature or would want to aneal itself could look trick in segments like a works pipe.
trouble is the hgs pipes i run are good but fragile and always bend and twist at the same place at the front even at the slightest mild off ,think i will have to weld up a mild steel works type ...now if i could get some titanium sheet !!

 any thoughts????

good idea but for me you gotta go with the steel for strength.I think the gnarlies are 18 gauge, cant remember whether 17 or 19 is thicker (slightly drunk) but I'd go one thicker than the gnarly.I want to replicate the cone size and shape of my Millet but route it normally instead of underslung, maybe even 250 type routing to cater for the large capacity tanks.
And lo, I did loft the front wheel and carried it forth to the unbelievers, and cast it down before them and said unto them ''look now upon the might of my throttle control ye pitiful cretinous ones''
And the unbelievers did quake in their boots....

I have read an article about it in Dirtrider ones years ago. It had some plus over steel.
The cost to make them and that there are pipes with thikker pieces for woods riding and pipes guards.
Didn't give it potentinal to be a selling hit.
HGS is 0.7mm/ 0.8mm  I believe, stocks are 1.0mm/1.1mm. They last longer, maybe 1mm plate
on the fragile spots?

yeah dutch the hgs is wafer thin but very light, trouble is they always seem to twist and squat at the front ,dont think doubling up on material will help ,was contemplating making some ribs to tack on but dont think this will stop the twist/squat think i might contemplate the ali version as we have an abundance of 3mm offcuts and im not too bad at ali tigging ,im wondering how the pressure waves will behave in the ali pipe or if it will absorb some of the noise?
i know ali get bloomin hot when your tigging and tends to transfer the heat in a wide area ,hows your little girl ? havnt heard much from you lately hope your all ok

Yes i know, have been under the radar for some months.
Have a different job for about six months now. Used to be a agriculture mechanic( or something like that)
And now I repair cargo transporters on Schiphol(Hollands Biggest airport). Worked 9 years at my old boss
wich was my first real job( I'm 30).
Have been building my own garage for the bikes, taken a lot of money and time. Much more than I was planning to.
And have been hooked up with Tractorpulling, started 4 years ago at my old work with a stock tractor.
I like to build and make stuff. Realy enjoyed making my AF, finding out how to balance my crank( wich still have to do).
With a friend/ old colleague I have been rebuilding a 6 cilinder diesel the last 3/4 year. And now we are bolting the engine to the gearbox. At May 12 we have to be ready for the race. Only there;s a 20years differents withe the engine and the rest of the tractor. 5 vs 6 cilinder, air vs water cooling, old vs much newer model. And we were told it could fit, well quess it's not. But when the weather is working with me and the money. Ill start finisching my garage because now
I don't realy have a place to work on my bike. Then I can balance my crank and rebuild the engine.
I even have a SPECIAL Lowboy exhaust from SPES, the one I talked about once. And a normal K5 Spes.
I haven't stopped reading KXRiders and searching for info or idea's for my AF and the KX500. Only need the time, place and money to futfill my dreams. That's the probleme we all have i quess :-D
And for my litlle girl. She's doing real good. She makes up  for the pain that it tahes to long to make my goals.

So it's doing fine with me, just a long winter depression I quess

And for the pipe, if you have so much alu. I think that a alu pipe works about the same.
It may  be thikker, but heat transfers much better. And heat is a good thing with pressure waves what I've heard. Thats wy 4stroke exhaust ar made from Titanium(wel the best once). it can be thinner , so it heats up faster.

I have Astma and bronchitus from the day I was born. must use Ventolin 3 times a day since i'm 10 or so.
Only I realised soon that is worked so good, that I stoppen using it. Only when I needed it,  because I was affriad(and only 11 or 12) it would not work as good if I used it 3 times a day. Later I only used it with riding.
Now 3 months ago I saw it has expired 2.5 years a go, and you can save it 4 years or so. Will a box is good for 8weeks.

If you need any info for the boy PM ME!!!!
