Idler gear assembly
« on: February 05, 2012, 05:01:30 PM »
I rebushed the kick start idler gear on my '90 k5 recently (say 4 or 5 hours riding ago) but it now has some slop which has been caused by to much sideways movement. The OEM parts fiche shows a circlip either side with no washers. Yet the clymer manual says there is a washer either side of it. What's the go with these?

I had a 1mm thick washer on the rear side of the gear. Really it should have the two in the clymer manual otherwise it's turning against the circlip all the time? A second one won't fit though so maybe I could face a bit off the side of gear in lathe so it's a snug fit and has a washer either side. Or when I make my new bush I can make it wider to take up the slop, but it's only bronze and the circlip might soon eat the new wider piece.

No washers on either side. Only a circlip on each side.
