Flywheel for 250F
« on: February 10, 2012, 07:15:44 AM »
I have been looking for a heavier flywheel for my 2011 250F.  Kawi offers three: 8.5, 9.0, 9.5.  It comes stock with a 9.0.  What is the weight difference between them.  I would expect it to be metric from Japan.  How much weight difference is there between these items.

My local dealer told me it was different ignition timing,  :?  When I suggested you can use the computer to change the timing and there was no need to change base timing he was a little baffled.  :-o I don't think he is too up on his technical part of the job.   He also told me the price, $420 Canadian.  Best price so far was $345 in the US.  I just want to know the difference in weight? Anyone know the difference?  It is listed as "I" for inertia on the kawi site.

Nevermind, I just ordered a Rekluse EXP 2.0.  That should take care of the stalling and power delivery...

I have been actually thinking the same thing on Flywheel weight..

I plan on going with Rekluse too.

By what you posted on weights kind of guessing being in the middle it should work pretty good?

the dealer could not give me the answers I wanted about how much heavier the Kawi flywheel is and now that I have the EXP2.0 I have not followed up on it at all.  A heavier clutch basket and steel plates instead of aluminum will help out also.  I have a new clutch sitting on the bench with steel plates, but I think I will install the EXP plate with the old plates and see if I like it and how it holds up, then I have a new back up clutch I can throw at it if it fails or I don't like it.  I am thinking the Rekluse EXP 2.0 might be a little hard on clutches.  Then what about the oil, is it going to heat up the oil if your doing alot of tight trail riding???

I will be taking a spare clutch kit where ever I go...  Until I get some seat time and hours on this Rekluse, I can't say what will happen.

I am installing the EXP sing the stock components...
same here try it out and see...was curious about oversized clutch cover thought it may help dissipate some heat.

please report back...

i really don't understand though why there is no FWW available for the 2011?

I think it is the shape of the flywheel, it is opposite the older bikes with the rotor open side out and the stator is on the cover facing inwards.  you cant just bolt a weight to it.  There are replacement flywheels for other bikes with the same set up.  Kawi wants alot of money for the flywheels so I thought the same money better spent on the EXP.

I just installed it the other night and it took like 20minutes.  I actually had to stand around a bit while the EXP pre-soaked in some oil like they wanted in the instructions.  So actual time to install is like 12-15min.  It takes a couple minutes to set up the clutch free play with the bike running.  I haven't been able to get out to ride it, just ran it back in forth in the shop a couple times.

I can tell you that it is going to be awsome...  as long as I don't have to change clutch plates every other ride...  I tried to stall it, can't do it...

I installed it with the pre installed springs for a medium engagement rpm.  I was going to change it out to the low rpm engagement but it actually seems pretty good where it is.  Not sure I would want a lower engagement rpm.  I will have to get some seat time on it, then try all three engagement rpms some day if I have time...

The clutch pull is quite stiff now, not that it really matters anymore but non the less its pretty stiff.  I think the EXP complete kit for $800 gets a lighter clutch pull, but for $400 less I will go with the heavier clutch pull as it will rarely get used.

If only they made one for the 500, its not recomended on four-strokes with a big bore kit so I think the 500 would shred it. I think I read on here they were developing one for the 500 but scrapped it because it didn't work well...

EXP auto clutch/18 inch rear trials tire/13/52 gearing--should be a good year for trail riding. :-D  I don't think I should even need the lower gearing with the clutch but it should help the clutch last longer  mabye...
